“Breakaway collars work well for cats so a small dog shouldn't be an issue. It may break if your dog pulls on the leash, so that's worth considering. There are a couple kinds. Some have an elastic loop in them that stretches (allowing the animals head to slip out) and they can also break. The ones I use for my cats are made by Rogz and have an adjustable slider for how much pressure it takes to release.”

“My best-behaving dog actually has his ID tags riveted onto his collar (to prevent staining and also noise) and he's fairly silent because of it. My sneakiest dog has all her tags on her collar that is on almost all the time. They are so noisy that I've jokingly starting to call them "jingletattles".”
